SERVE Day could be seen as a daunting and exhausting undertaking but it was an opportune time to put my people skills to the ultimate test. SERVE Day is a world wide day of service where churches and organizations take on the needs of their community on one day, demonstrating care and compassion and a shared mission to do good. For the organization I worked for, we coordinated this effort amount up 60 church partners.
My role was to plan, oversee and staff resource centers where community members could find food, clothing and financial support across Northern Colorado. Not only was this direct interaction with community members, I would also help recruit and train volunteers that would interface in some of the highest needs. The collision of different worlds, cultures, view points, and just people in general could stand to be a nightmare but I loved the challenge and realistically thrive under the pressure and unexpected nature of this single day of service.
